Filter Forge Contest Winners

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 11:38 AM PDT

Hello everyone and thank you for your patience these last several days (and weeks) as I sorted through all the entries for the filter forge contest to decide our three winners. It was a tough call and we had a lot of great entries but I've finally narrowed it down to three. It's important to note that since the prize is the same for every winner (free filter forge license) that the order below is arbitrary, there is no first, second, or third. I thought them all worthy ;)

Just to refresh everyone, here were the contest guidelines: Using the Filter Forge software create your own custom filter(s) and/or use one of the 7500 filters that come with their software to create an original piece of your own. You may submit up to 5 filter examples, please include a before and after image for each filter you use. The top three submissions will be awarded a free license for their downloaded Filter Forge software, a value of $399!

1. Kush K

2. Samora Bennet-Gager

3. Amina Tayyub

If you are one of the above winners I will be emailing you the license as soon as possible. Congratulations!

In case you missed the first post...

Filter Forge is a high-end graphic software allowing you to create visual effects, enhance photos, generate textures, and process images. It features 7500+ free ready-to-use realistic and abstract textures and effects, and a powerful visual editor to create custom ones. Filter Forge can operate as a standalone application or as a plug-in for Photoshop and compatible hosts, under Windows or Mac OS X.

Photographers, graphic designers and 3D modelers will benefit from a large library of ready-to-use textures and effects available for free. Any library filter can be opened in Filter Editor for examination and improvement. All filters are adjustable and editable, resolution-independent, and support real-world HDRI lighting. The library contains over 7500 filters; all filters can be viewed online at http://www.filterforge.com/filters/

Introducing Adam Smith

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 07:26 AM PDT

It's really interesting that, besides the fact that we always complain that everything was created when it comes to art/design, we always find something that seems fresh and unique. I found the work of this artist/illustrator from Philadelphia, PA while wandering thru some tattoo blogs, he's watercolor paintings are a complete travel to he's own graphic universe, hope you enjoy it.

If you want to know more about Adam, please acess his Website.

My goal as an artist is to interpret, record, and honor all things human. Joy, pain, love, death, faith, humor, history…these are all things that we as humans have in common and they are all things that can and do bring us together as well as push us apart. I don't attempt to find clarity in the confusion and chaos of the world, for now I'm just exploring (Adam's Website).

Astonishing Hotel above the Santorini Volcano, Greece

Posted: 20 Apr 2011 05:36 AM PDT

Who looks quickly think this hotel is only one more of those luxurious hotels around the world and with a beautiful view. But he is much more than that, perhaps because it is located above the famous caldera of Santorini Volcano, at Greece. That's right, a hotel over a volcano!

<!--break-->

Project by the Greek architecture office DiverCity Architects , the Santorini Grace Hotel is an example of luxury, comfort, very functional and above all maintain basic features of Greek architecture. As the architects say "The Hotel Provider Interpretation of the contemporary vernacular architecture: economy of space, radical simplicity, and organic forms." Each photo shows the incredible beauty of this place and despite being located near a volcano can notice the peace that he conveys.

To learn more about the project, check out the project page on the architects website at Divercity Architects.

To ensure privacy, fragments of volcanic rock are positioned in the windows of four rooms, interspersed with apertures that provide glimpses to the sea. The feature echoes a local architectural technique, more commonly used for retaining walls, in which minimal amounts of mortar are used, leaving gaps between the stonework.
